One of the oldest and largest communities of Thessaly, the Jewish Community of Larissa has had a centuries-long presence in the region, initially with Greek-speaking Romaniotes, and later with Sephardic and Ashkenazi Jews. It maintained a rich religious, social, and educational life, while during the Occupation it suffered heavy losses, with 36% of its members exterminated. The community remains active to this day.
