The Jewish presence in Volos and the wider region dates back to the 1st century CE. The community played an active role in the economic, social, and intellectual life of the city, with schools, associations, and vibrant commercial activity. The Synagogue of Volos, built in 1870, was destroyed during the war and rebuilt in 1960. Emblematic figures for the community were Rabbi Moissis Pesach and Raphael Fresis. Today, Volos hosts a vibrant community of about 120 members.
