
The Jewish community of Kastoria was established in the 6th century and was originally composed of Greek-speaking Romaniotes. After 1492, Sephardic Jews also settled in the city. The Jews of Kastoria were mainly involved in the trade of fish and wine. Before the war, the community numbered around 900 people. On March 24, 1944, most of them were deported to Auschwitz, with losses reaching 96%.
